Thank you so much! Dale M, owner of a 2015 GMC Terrain from Midlothian, TX Here's what our customers are saying about our Touch Up Paint: Shelly F, owner of a 2015 GMC Terrain from Martinsville, IN Why is the Vin pin not supplying 12V? Do I need to put an extraneous transistor in that as well? I don't see how limiting the current the Arduino supplies changes the voltage it's supposed to output. Why is the Arduino trying to fry itself by supplying more current to the device than it's supposed to? What kind of transistor are you telling me to buy - 12V 40 mA and 5 V mA? I am literally following setup guides that show this exact same wiring diagram and code. Modulating voltage should modulate the speed (and therefore volume of air) of the fan? The tiny fan I'm using has 3 pins, one of which is just a useless signal pin that just notifies a computer that it's working - the third pin (signal) on the fan is not connected to anything. It's not a 12V fan, it's a single 5V fan? This gives your projects plenty of room and opportunities maintaining the simplicity and effectiveness of the Arduino platform. If you got a computer fan with PWM speed control (the 4-pin ones) the extra pin is for PWM speed control, and you can put 12v across the fan and use 5v PWM on the PWM speed control pin, and then you don't need additional components. With 54 digital I/O pins, 16 analog inputs and a larger space for your sketch it is the recommended board for 3D printers and robotics projects. If you used an N-channel MOSFET on the low side of the fan, and put the high side onto +12v, you could run the fan at a full 12v (I don't think all of those fans will even spin at 5v) You need to use a transistor to switch high current loads. Stop doing that before you burn out the pin driver. Oh yeah, there's no way you can power a 12v fan that typically uses that type of connector via an Arduino I/O pin, even with 5v, it would draw far too much current (which is what is happening, that's why the pin isn't able to provide a whole 5v). put your main code here, to run repeatedly:ĪnalogWrite(fan1Pin, 250) //Should be linear relation between 0-5V and 0-255 analog output.Ĭorrection: Vin is only supplying 4V when it's supposed to be supplying 12V. put your setup code here, to run once: This pin is PWM enabled for analog output 0-255 Sketch: const int fan1Pin = 5 //Output pin for the fan. It measures 3.23V for DC and square wave is just -000. I am placing it at the exposed yellow wire and the black wire at the base of the fan. If you use the pin as a digital input, you can enable the internal pull-up resistor for that pin. The digital section (page 67) shows the switchable pull ups. The Atmega 2560 datasheet ADC section (page 268) makes no mention of pull ups on the analog inputs. I'm using a multimeter set to measure DC voltage and the square wave. A pull up makes no sense on an analog input. Pin 5 (on the PWM side) is an output going to the red (+) terminal on the fan, black (-) terminal is hooked up to breadboard bar wired to the arduino's ground. There's a 12V power supply to the board in addition to USB. Need to see your wiring diagram - have you other stuff connected ? How are you measuring the voltage ? And your sketch - something is wrong but it’s not obviousĪttached picture of wiring setup. The player knows the general location of the artifact on the landscape. The maps which allow the player to find the collectable artifacts overlays provides an interesting understanding of the “ancient” world, especially when considering archaeology. Keys like our modern key sets are apparently not part of the Horizon Zero Dawn world and therefore they cannot interpret the artifact outside of their own cultural knowledge, providing the description by the Aloy, and the Nora for that matter, as a set of ancient chimes.Īncient chimes in the player’s inventory. This one is more notably consistent with the post-modern critique that interpretation of artifacts cannot be separated from ones own culture. The description also offers the provenance in the “sources” category and the potential uses that the item has for Aloy, and subsequently the player.Ī similar description and interpretation of the keys is offered to the player through Aloy’s inventory. This can be drawn from the fact that the item is a common item as stated literally in the text and that it can be sold for a fair amount of currency to all merchants. The description suggests that analogue wrist watches are a commonly found artifact in Aloy’s world which has some sort of value to the economic functions of the gatherer-hunter communities. The description offered more information about the item in terms of Aloy’s world. Screenshot by Kaitlyn Kingsland.įor example, the analogue wrist watch is known to Aloy as an “Ancient Black Bracelet” in which the name presents the Nora’s cultural understanding of a common item for people of today. The resources inventory screen showing the image and interpretation of an analogue wrist watch. There is the added benefit from the description and “used for” category to allow the player to interpret what the artifact is considered to be in terms of uses and value that the artifacts hold for Aloy’s world. This representation of these artifacts holds the archaeological elements of provenance in telling the player where they commonly find these artifacts. These items have interpretations in the name and description but the inclusion of images of the item allows the player to understand what the item is in terms of our world. Specifically, the presence of analogue and digital wrist watches and keys stand out from the rest of the resources. Other items which can be picked up through various means are items which are known to us presently but to a future humans with no understanding of our world, the interpretation of items is present. These items can be as simple as bits of plant and bundles of wood. For example, in the resources inventory there are simple items which the player collects and can use to craft necessary items, like arrows. In the inventory, players can view a small image of the item with a description of the item. Returning to the premise of teaching archaeological thinking subtly, Horizon Zero Dawn incorporates material culture from our near future which the player discovers. Specifically, in how the placement of artifact assemblages is similar to that of real-life assemblages as found in archaeological excavations as well as the contexts in which artifacts can be found. For more on how I am currently approaching the Archaeogaming of Horizon Zero Dawn and the background on the game, see the post from 28 June 2019.įor this post, I want to focus on the artifact assemblages present in Horizon Zero Dawn. As discussed in the previous Horizon Zero Dawn Post, archaeology in Horizon Zero Dawn is an unspoken theme which exists in the game’s landscape and collectables. “My best advice is to stick to blocks like white concrete, light grey concrete, and stone – or similar – for the walls. “A good modern house builder will think about their palate, meaning which blocks they’ll use to build it,” explains Andy. For Creative Mode players, a block is just a few mouse clicks away, but as a Survival player, it might take hours for you to collect the necessary materials – and there are plenty needed if you want to get it right! Luckily, you don’t have to be stupidly rich to be able to build modern architecture in Minecraft! But getting started with a modern house might be easier said than done. I could not find any floor plans for it, so we had fun designing the most ridiculously lavish house possible, complete with bowling lanes, a YouTube recording room, cinema, tennis courts and even a helipad! While it was a fun build, I still tried to make sure the layout was sensible, the rooms had good views and the build would work for the rich people living in it!“ “I did this 20+ hour livestream, where I built my version of the Bel Air mansion ‘The One’. turns out a golden house might not even be close to as excessive and over the top as one of Andy’s recent builds. Hey, remember the second paragraph where I made a HILARIOUS joke about building a house made of gold? Well. Just place blocks in simple rows, add some carefully placed windows and a few vertical elements and you already have something that looks like a real-life house.” “Many modern houses have a lot of clean-looking straight lines, a relative lack of diagonal lines and a strong horizontal composition. “The reason modern and contemporary houses seem to lend themselves to Minecraft probably stems from the fact that we build with square blocks,” says Andyisyoda, a professional YouTuber and aspiring architect, known for his skills with these styles. What unites the two styles is how good their themes fit into the game. With concrete-heavy creations such as Fallingwater or Villa Savoye, it dates back to the early 1920’s. The difference? Contemporary is the architecture of its time, using innovative approaches and minimalist design choices to make the house of tomorrow – today! Modern architecture on the other hand is – despite its name – quite old. Two of the most popular building styles in Minecraft are modern architecture and contemporary architecture. I’m actually talking about modern architecture! I’m talking, of course, about building a tacky castle entirely out of gold! Wait, that’s not it. Perhaps it’s time to try out a whole new design? One that incorporates a feeling of both style and luxury. This is all to say that there comes a time in every Minecraft player’s life when they suddenly want to take their house building skills to the next level. Small, dirty shacks becomes beautiful villas, simple cobblestone is replaced with jungle tree or terracotta, and that pile of sand blocks you threw on the floor instead of building a bed becomes an actual bed. The beautiful thing about Minecraft is how you gradually improve as a player, honing your craft, slowly developing your skill – and your personal taste often follows suit. For some reason it took a while to find the rest of the roses that I needed to dye the wool. The bed is sitting on a 3×3 red wool carpet. If you go past that, there’s a staircase around the corner leading down into the second story of the base (note to self: post pictures later). The ladder on the left leads up to the loft. It looks odd in my opinion, but I can fix that later. I’m not sure I like how some of the roof turned out. The cabin is a studio bedroom with a small kitchen and a loft. Here’s a picture of the back of the cabin, which is more interesting than the front (which is little more than a wooden wall with a door). I really liked the kitchen ideas in that thread. The cabin’s interior decorating isn’t entirely original: I found a great thread last night with awesome decorating ideas. I may just carpet the entire area with torches for safety or at least shovel off more dirt below the fence line. The spiders can still jump over certain areas of the fence and the creepers will explode if you get too close, regardless of what side of the fence you are on. Dave fenced off the top area We still need to level out the dirt but as of now, there’s a nice grassy plateau with a wooden cabin, a natural pond and some trees. Unfortunately, because of the way the first and second floor are laid out, that is an awkward thing to do unless I want a multi-color ceiling above my wheat farm. Also, I really wanted to tile in a nice wooden floor with a red throw rug underneath the double bed. The original intention was to make it a bedroom, but the space we dug out was awkwardly large. We constructed a nice living room on the second floor of base 3 last night (overlooking the library). More obscure languages, like Kannada from India, allowed for unexpected and particularly specific emotional portrayals. The tilt of the slant above the accented “o” serves to create an entirely opposite effect. Brazilians, for example, figured out that accent marks could be used for a wide range of “eyebrow” emotions, like ò_ó or ó_ò. Once new language keyboards became more available to people around the world, the net began to see really interesting results. These characters come from both Finnish and Japanese. For example, the small katakana “wa” and the accented “o”s make up this kawaii face: ôヮô. Over time, people began to mix characters from languages and new ASCII symbols to make emoticons that could portray things never before seen online. t(o_ot), for example, was used as a way to show the middle finger - it essentially meant “f**k off!” We also began to see ‘vampire’ kaomoji that used commas and periods as ‘snake eyes’ and ‘fangs’ (i.e. Emoticon started to be used to portray gesticulations too. These characters became known as “kirbys,” a nod to Nintendo’s blobby, pink, and oh-so-squish-able mascot. Actually, the ‘three slashes’ made its way back into anime (artists often draw lines on the face of their subjects to show shyness)! Who would have ever thought that something as simple as little kawaii text faces would have so much cultural impact?Īs differenct ASCII characters were created and symbols from other languages were discovered, we began seeing people use things like braces and carets >o^^)> started to spread across IMs and microsites (like MySpace). Similar to the butt cheek-shaped snot you often see in anime, using /// gave a feeling of blushing. Dashes were used to show contempt (-_-) or sleepiness. Later, when people actually wanted to get across a dead guy, they’d use “X”s, like this face: X_X.Īfter some time, netizens got more creative with their kaomoji. The use of asterisks as eyes was something that you’d really only see in Japan, and was different from the western internet standards at the time (the :-) face). Because characters and computer memory were limited, you’d often only see stuff like (*_*) and other dead-looking faces. Originally, kaomoji weren’t really meant to be cute. These special emoticons are creative faces made from text and symbols taken from multiple languages. Around this time, the first “kaomoji” were created by people in Japan who wanted to express themselves in a more visual way. In roughly 1986, the internet started to spread to Japan.
